BLOCK 71 Singapore Entrepreneur Feature — Stendard
In this week’s Entrepreneur Feature, we speak to Jason, CEO and co-founders of Stendard.io, a startup whose mission is to simplify compliance for businesses. He catches us up on what’s Stendard’s next move.
- What is Stendard and how did the idea come about?
We are a cloud-based platform that helps companies generate documents to meet international standards, such as ISO 13485 and SS 620. So traditionally, companies have to hire consultants or get experts to help them set up the documents, so they can get prepared for their audits, before their products can be commercialised. With us, it’s a DIY platform that companies can easily answer the questions and get through the platform themselves — generating the necessary documents, reviewing them and preparing themselves for the audits. Hints and guidance are provided along the way as well! This brings all sizes of companies from zero knowledge on international standards to audit-ready state within the shortest time anyone can dream of.
2. What is Stendard’s secret sauce?
My co-founder is also my brother, and so we’ve naturally known each other about 30 years. We strongly believe that the core engine behind running a successful business is trust and understanding between partners — so this relationship is a bonus when it comes to being 100% focused in pushing boundaries forward.
3. What was Stendard’s greatest challenge?
I think the greatest challenge is always about delivering the right pitch to different parties accurately. Within the shortest possible time, you got to know the person’s background and finetune the right message for him/her. It’s an ongoing process where we consistently practise and fine tune our pitch. Over the past years, we have met so many customers, partners, investors and I think our pitch library has evolved quite a bit!
4. What is your best memory at BLOCK71?
I think the really exciting stuff here at BLOCK71 is always the kind of community spirit between the founders here. Whenever we have any questions, we can easily engage the other startups’ founders and to ask for feedback and comments. We always help each other and of course, all the group lunches and dinners together keeps our bond strong!
5. What’s next for Stendard?
Stendard launched our very first platform, Stendard First™ in September 2017 in Singapore. Within the first 3 months, we have managed to expand to South Korea through a local partner. Though we have a stronger presence in South-east Asia, we have customers from various regions of the world too, like US, Europe, Africa, Australia! It’s exciting times ahead and we are obsessed with growing the business, by having more global partnerships.
Last month, we have also just launched for a new Singapore standard called the SS 620, where we help companies in Singapore who are in the medical device import and distribution business. Similarly, these companies can now use our platform to easily generate their set of documents, which will help them to meet the requirements of this new standard. The purpose is to allow them to get their business running, with minimal regulatory obstacles. This is an initiative that we hope we can enable more Singapore businesses, especially with a large dominance of SMEs within Singapore.
