The prestigious NUS Overseas Colleges (NOC) programme will be extending its presence within Southeast Asia and breaking new ground in Toronto this year. With the two new additions, the programme will now be available in eleven entrepreneurial hotspots around the world.

Established in 2002, NOC is an entrepreneurship-development programme designed to immerse high-calibre students in innovative companies and communities for intensive experiential learning while taking courses at prestigious overseas universities. To date, over 2,400 students have embarked on the programme and NOC alumni have created more than 300 start-ups, including renowned brands such as Carousell, ShopBack, 99.co and honestbee.

NOC SE ASIA

Home to 640 million people, Southeast Asia has seen an enormous transformation in the past decades from an agrarian society to today’s innovation powerhouse. With burgeoning potentials of these markets in sight, it is timely to launch the next frontier of NOC in Southeast Asia. The 3-month programme will be specifically targeted at developing innovative solutions to real-world challenges faced by Southeast Asian companies, cultivating entrepreneurial talents familiar with and capable of operating within the region, and increasing the cultural appreciation of our closest countries.

NOC SE Asia will be launched in Jakarta, one of region’s most dynamic economy, and the birthplace of tech unicorns Go-Jek, Tokopedia and Traveloka. Home to the world’s fourth largest population, the Indonesian start-up scene is as diverse and vibrant as its people. With the recent opening of BLOCK71 Jakarta, students will not only get a chance to work with Indonesian start-ups looking to grow their businesses, but also Singaporean start-ups based in Jakarta looking into penetrating the Indonesian market. Being part of NOC SE Asia will not only open doors to the regional networks, it is a unique opportunity to dive into the market and develop a deep understanding of the city.

NOC TORONTO

Toronto is the fourth-largest city in North America and is simmering with entrepreneurial talents, opportunity and a strong foundation to support it. It is the center of commerce and industry in Canada and home to a large number of successful venture-backed businesses, such as Shopify, KIK, FreshBooks and 500px. It is with this in mind that NOC has fixed its sights on Toronto as the next innovation hub where our students can tap into the community that gave us some of the world’s best inventions — the light bulb, the zipper, insulin, the Blackberry and Java programming language, just to name a few.

NOC Toronto is a year-long programme, established in partnership with the University of Toronto, which boasts world-class technology and engineering programmes. Students will get a chance to experience first-hand the entrepreneurship and venture capital ecosystem as well as network in one of the most diverse and interesting populations in the world.

Working in exciting start-ups and rubbing shoulders with some of the most creative minds in the world, to continue the endeavour of inspiring future entrepreneur-leaders and change-agents who will add dynamism, nimbleness and inventiveness to the economy.
